Volunteering
Volunteering Opportunities - Registration Form
Basic Information
Volunteering can be a great way to make a difference in your child's academic
activities, or simply a way to help out your local educational community. There
are several ways to volunteer, but first there some things that you may need
to know.
There are two types of volunteers:
The Listed Volunteers
A listed volunteer is any person who is initially screened by the home school,
completes the security check form, and is subject to a criminal records check.
No person may engage in activities requiring this category of background check
prior to completing the listed check process. A listed volunteer is subject
to visual or auditory supervisory contact by the way of second adult supervision,
peer supervision, or school-based supervision at all times when they are involved
with students.
Examples:
Assisting in the Classroom
Assisting in Sports/Clubs activities
Assisting with booster activities
A concerned parent who wants to be part of the teaching/school process in the
classroom or another part of the school
Field trips with two parents per groups to a local location such as the King
Center for the Performing Arts.
Registered Volunteers
A registered volunteer is any person who is initially screened by the home school,
completes the security check form, and is subject to a criminal records check,
to include submission of a fingerprint card, conducted by the Florida Department
of Law Enforcement. A registered volunteer must complete a similar background
check as district employees, which includes an approved application and reference
check. No person may engage in activities requiring this category of background
check prior to completing the registered background check process. Registered
volunteers may be alone with students only when the FBI/Florida Department of
Law Enforcement check has been completed and the results have been received
by the principal.
Examples:
May have non-supervised access to students
May travel alone with students
May have keys to any building or support facility
May be in a position of considerable influence or real/perceived power
All overnight field trips or out of county locations
Listed and Registered volunteers must renew the process every three years to
remain current. Copies of Brevard County Volunteer/Mentoring Application &
Security Check form are available in the front office and in the 37 building.

Medications
In compliance with state law, students are not permitted to carry medications
into the nurse, and sign for them to be given. Also no medications are dispensed
unless parents have supplied the medication for the children.
